A Chic Weekend in Mexico City
There are cities you visit… and cities you feel.
Mexico City will always be both for me.
Friday Night in Roma
Land, settle in, and head straight to Tacos del Valle in La Roma.
A jewel not to be missed. Unassuming, vibrant, absolutely delicious, the kind of place locals cherish and visitors remember. The tacos are soulful, authentic, and unforgettable. The perfect way to begin a weekend in the city.
Saturday: San Ángel Charm
Start in San Ángel, where time slows down. After visiting Diego Rivera’s studio house, wander through the cobblestone streets toward the Bazar San Ángel — colorful, romantic, and effortlessly charming.
Lunch at Casa San Ángel Inn is a ritual. A long, lingering Saturday afternoon in a courtyard wrapped in bougainvillea, traditional Mexican cuisine done beautifully, and that old-world elegance that feels untouched by time. Order the Sopa de Tortilla, it is delicious.
It’s classic Mexico City at its most refined.
Sunday: The Contramar Ritual
Sunday lunch at Contramar is non-negotiable.
The ambience. The service. The energy. The people. The cocktails. And yes: the food is utterly extraordinary. There’s a vibrant, celebratory rhythm to this place that feels like the heartbeat of the city. It’s not just a meal; it’s a scene.
Art, Architecture & Hidden Jewels
The Palacio Postal is a true jewel — home to the first stamp ever issued in Mexico and one of the most breathtaking interiors in the city. Gilded, intricate, and unexpectedly grand.
From there, stroll around Bellas Artes. Pop inside for that Art Deco magic and let yourself linger. This area hums with culture, history, and cinematic beauty.
Dinner one evening at Tetetlán in Pedregal is a must — exquisite cuisine set inside a Barragán house that feels intimate, architectural, and entirely unique. Cozy, thoughtful, unforgettable.
And never skip Museo Soumaya — even if only to stand before the Rodin sculptures on the top floor. Open daily and free, it’s a gift to the city.
The Tacos I Crave
No visit is complete without El Califa.
If I had to choose my last meal on earth, it might be these tacos — simple, pure, perfect.
Add Elotes Durango to your list. Non-negotiable.
A Little Indulgence
For shopping, I always browse El Palacio de Hierro in Polanco — fashion, beauty, inspiration.
A coffee and pastry at Rosetta, followed by a stop at Golden Goose, is my perfect Polanco loop.
Mexico City is layered, soulful, endlessly alive.
It feeds you — in every possible way.
