Why Hispanic Heritage Month Feels Like Home 💋

Hola Guapas,

As the vibrant colors of fall roll in, have you ever stopped to think about how your roots shape your love for beauty? For me, the arrival of Hispanic Heritage Month opens up a personal space for reflection and celebration. From September 15th to October 15th, we honor the myriad contributions of Americans whose heritage can be traced back to Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America. For us at Madame Gabriela, it's not just an observance—it's a trip back to my own roots.

A Stroll Down Mexico City’s Avenues: My Own Beauty Awakening

So, what does beauty mean to you? For me, it was walking down the chic lanes of Polanco in Mexico City as a young woman, feeling the rhythm of the city and taking in the vivid hues of Frida Kahlo's art exhibited in local galleries. The atmosphere would come alive as restaurants prepared for the evening, with the elegant scents of richly infused ingredients wafting through the air. The importance of 'the right ingredients' stuck with me, and this city taught me to appreciate the finer details, the subtleties in colors, flavors, and above all, the beauty within ourselves.

The Lipstick Chronicles: Lessons from My Family

My family's dining table was another runway where beauty and culture coalesced. Conversations with my mother and grandmother didn't just stop at 'pass the salt.' We discussed everything from politics to why a great lipstick is your best ally when you want to conquer the world. Lipstick for us was more than just makeup; it was our family heirloom of amor, passed down through generations.

Celebrating Roots, Celebrating Us

September 15th, the start of this glorious month, also marks the anniversary of the Cry of Dolores and the kick-off of Mexico’s fight for independence. Isn't it amazing how the past and the present can collide to bring a deeper meaning to our celebrations?

So, as you put on your favorite shade of lipstick or revel in your own cultural celebrations, remember, we’re not just celebrating a month, we're honoring a lifetime of stories, including mine and of course yours.

Besos y abrazos,

x Gabriela
