Discover one of our least-talked about ingredients and the true queen of the chameleon life: chamomile. She’s a daisy-like thing of beauty one day and a killer natural remedy the next. Don’t be fooled, she no shrinking violet and she is here to slay (your lips with goodness).
While her story begins at least 5000 years ago, it was her interplay with human health around the Roman time that really made her a star. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, is said to have held her tight. The ancient Greeks, Egyptians, and Romans worshiped at her feet. Years after years her usefulness and attachment grew, which brings us to her role in our passions today.
The Madame Gabriela team was first introduced to her at the famed “Herboristerie de la Place Clichy” in Paris when we were on the hunt for a seductive mistress to add to our every growing clean ingredient list. Our travels would take us through five countries as we chased her allure. It was "Matricaria Chamomilla” otherwise know as German Chamomile that made us all stand up and say “Ich will mehr!” (“I want more!”).
Her chameleon qualities were no better exposed than in our Los Angeles lab. On the table, those delicate yellow and white buds, so harmless and gentle looking at first frenzied into bursts of oil that change color from brilliant blues to a deep green the more our process intensified. Those flowers and color changing again only to reveal their true anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, soothing, antiseptic and sedative properties. In fact approximately 120 secondary metabolites have been identified in chamomile, including 28 terpenoids and 36 flavonoids that penetrate below the skin surface into the deeper skin layers for the ultimate effect.
What does this mean? Chamomile is here for you. A temptress of good showering your lips with skin-soothing and anti-inflammatory properties.
So lovers, next time you see her hollow bright cone flowers ringed with white florets along a path or garden, remember her power. Her enchantment. Her passion.
Now and forever, she’s on every kiss you give.
XO Madame Gabriela
